CASE STUDY
Helping NSW give feedback on the 40-year transport strategy
-
Future Transport 2056 was an ambitious program to envision a 40-year plan for connecting people, communities and businesses in NSW to provide a successful and thriving future.
An important part of the development of the strategy was feedback from the people of NSW. And so, our challenge was to engage and excite the people of NSW about future possibilities, and to engage as many people as possible to let us know what they thought.
-
Future Transport was a big project. As well as a 40-strong team within Transport for NSW, we also had a lot of suppliers, one for advertising and game development, one for the website, one for social media, one for PR, one for content strategy, one for data visualisation. Plus we had activities planned in marketing, social, digital, media and an experiential roadshow … to bring it all together we needed a unifying idea.
In a meeting with one of our suppliers I seized on a throwaway line to give the campaign its unifying idea. We wanted NSW to React to the Future. This call to action and the future transport logo themed emojis became the basis for the 360’ campaign, including a roadshow around NSW, and gave everyone a real way to give their feedback quickly and easily.
-
As the Digital Engagement Lead my role was to bring it all together: content for the website, the game, the social campaign and supporting videos.
As well as working with the range of suppliers to disseminate the unifying idea I also worked with the engagement team and the Transport for NSW design department to design a caravan experience that would bring the future transport strategy to more than 20 community locations around New South Wales.

There was a lot of press attention and a phenomenal number of moving parts to this campaign but we delivered them on time and to the satisfaction of our stakeholders. And most importantly we were able to gain a huge range of feedback through social, digital and through our in-person engagement experiences.
The website also won three W3 Awards, Gold ‘Best Government Website’, Silver ‘Aesthetics for Websites’, Silver ‘Best Practices for Websites’.
We needed a big idea to unify the Future Transport Strategy engagement phase.
‘React to the future’ gave us a clear call to action and future transport motif we could use throughout our 360’ campaign.
And boy, did we use it!
In digital…
…social media
…outdoor
…video
And on an epic road trip!
So, what’s your reaction?
